Tactile Cueing and Communication

  • At Barreflies, Amanda uses a range of cues to communicate movement and enhance feedback: visual demonstrations, verbal instruction/ feedback and light touch. Tactile cueing (hands on adjustments/ feedback) are always gentle and purposeful, and should never force movement.

  • Amanda will usually combine techniques to ensure safe and accurate alignment, posture and to improve joint proprioception. When a client signs an intake waiver they naturally consent to tactile cueing as part of the studio environment.

  • A client can update their preferences and opt out of tactile cueing at any time. However, it is important to realise the limitations of exercise instruction in a group class if consent is withdrawn. So it is recommended to have a conversation with Amanda about personal preferences and sensitivities should the need arise.
