Pilates/ Barre & Myofascial Classes
These are all open classes that I run every week, designed to be fun, energising and designed to keep you in good condition - with "open" meaning that anyone is welcome up to the limits of the size of each class.
These classes draw on my background in Pilates, dance-inspired movement, and anatomy-focused training. Each session blends precision and flow — small, controlled movements that build strength and endurance without strain.
What is a BarreConcept class like?
Set to mid-tempo music (124-135bpm), BarreConcept has a cardio element. It merges the disciplines of Pilates, ballet, Yoga and sports conditioning to sculpt and tone the body as well as improving posture, flexibility and balance. Most of the routine is performed at the barre, incorporating small equipment such as weights and Pilates balls. You’ll work on posture, core control, and mobility through mindful repetition and myofascial training. A longer class typically includes a core matwork section.
The result is a stronger, leaner, more connected body — and a deeper understanding of how you move. Every class can be adapted for the group, so you can challenge yourself safely at your own pace.
What is Fascia and what is the benefit of FAMO myofascial training?
Fascia is our largest sensory organ and a complex network consisting of membranes and ligaments, both superficial and deep connective tissue that enclose muscle.
Previously dismissed, research has now established that normal muscle function depends on the health of the fascial system and the ability of receptors within it to feed back to the central nervous system. FAMO has developed a movement practice that addresses the power-transmitting function of fascia to enhance or impair movement.
Is matwork Pilates as effective as Reformer Pilates?
Tricky question. In mat Pilates you rely on your intrinsic muscle strength, control, and coordination to perform movements against the force of gravity. This offers superior proprioception (awareness of where your body is in space) and promotion of deep stabilising muscles compared to Reformer/ machine Pilates which uses a system of adjustable springs, pulleys and a sliding carriage that excels at working specific muscle groups.
