Sports Massage Sessions
This is a 1:1 session with Amanda - focusing on fully understanding your injury/ailment and defining a pathway to recovery. While massage is a key part of these sessions, you will benefit from my deep understanding of human physiology and techniques to strengthen and repair the human body using a combination of the skills I have mastered over the last 16 years.
Is Sports Massage just for athletes?
Sports Massage, despite it’s name, combines massage techniques such as effleurage and petrissage direct blood flow, moving the fluid into circulation points within the body consistent with venous return. It also incorporates specific techniques and stretches to mobilise and break down adhesions and scar tissue to address problems and imbalances in the soft tissues, whether from athletic activity or everyday stress (e.g., poor posture from a desk job).
Does massage reduce pain?
Pain biology is complex, and can be associated with actual or potential tissue damage. In simple terms, massage can help to reduce noxious pain stimuli by activating non-painful or distractive stimulus, e.g. through rubbing, deep touch, or heat application.
Other common questions about sports massage
I have compiled a list of the questions I am most often asked on the Sports Massage FAQ page. Please visit this page to get answers quickly but feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
NOTE: If I haven't seen you before, please select the "Initial Sports Massage Assessment" below. If we agree that follow-on 1-to-1 sessions would be a good fit, then the follow-on classes are priced lower, to reflect your commitment to my services, or perhaps you'd be more at home in one of my group classes, in which case you'd want to visit this page to book a class.
